We have a challenge for you… This Black Friday weekend, we have increased the prices across all of Uganda Marathon packages by 10%, with the difference going to help a young Ugandan entrepreneur start their journey in business. We are asking you to buck the trend and pass on your savings from all the Black Friday deals out there, use this holiday to make an incredible difference in the life of a disadvantaged youth in Uganda. Just £200 can make a life-changing difference to 10 youths, helping them to start their journey in business and pull themselves out of poverty. All the action from the week   On Saturday June 2nd, the starting gun for the 4th Uganda Marathon fired and 3,000 Ugandan and international runners took off for A Race Like No Other! For the international runners who came to Uganda to take part, the marathon was the finale of a week visiting the amazing projects that they have supported. In 2018, the event has raised an incredible $130,000 for organisations and NGOs across Masaka, still making it the biggest fundraising event in Uganda’s history. On Sunday June 4th, the starting gun for the 3rd Uganda International Marathon fired and 3,000 Ugandan and international runners ran A Race Like No Other! For the international runners who came to Uganda to take part, the marathon was the finale of a week visiting the amazing projects that they have supported. In 2017, the event has raised an incredible $130,000 for organisations and NGOs across Masaka, still making it the biggest fundraising event in Uganda’s history. Now the results for each race are up! The Big Pre-Event Photoblog! A Sneak Peek Into Next Week’s Adventure!

We are now just three days until the start of an Adventure Like No Other! 120 people are going to descend into beautiful Masaka for a trip of a lifetime, and the team are in full swing preparing. As we eagerly count down until the first bus arrives we’re extremely excited to bring to you our pre-event photoblog, to get a sneak peek into what’s in store for the next 10 days as part of the Uganda International Marathon. Enjoy, wish our runners luck and stay tuned for lots more coming out of An Adventure Like No Other! The Masaka Running Club, sponsored by The Uganda Marathon, are out in full force, training for the marathon! For those of you staying at the hotel… The pool awaits! Here’s a small glimpse into the Athletes’ Village, your home away from home for the next 10 days. The Athletes’ Village eco showers are under constructions – bringing a touch of luxury to rural Africa! Your view running down Bugabira Primary School hill, through one of the projects that you’ve supported. Imagine the kids cheering you on! This is the view that you’ll be waking up to at Athletes’ Village – every morning! The, yet to be named, campsite goat! Munching on some delicious banana leaves – he’s excited for your arrival! A word with two UGM Volunteers – Steve & Tanya

Here, two of our current volunteers sum up their experience of living in Uganda for three months, getting to know the culture, meeting the local people and volunteering at the Charity Projects, in two short, but wonderfully written blurbs. Here’s a peek into Uganda and the UGM’s Charity Projects… A big thank you to Steve and Tanya for taking the time to write these, and for all their hard work in supporting the UGM Projects! We really appreciate it!   Steve: Great local food from Rebecca’s café; glorious sunshine interspersed with full-on rain; crazy games of football where trees form natural obstacles, there’s an unknown number of players and you play until it gets dark; learning about farming pigs, chickens and mushrooms; jumping on the back of a bodaboda and being whisked down bumpy roads; receiving remarkable levels of hospitality…these are just a few of the experiences that come as standard when spending time with the Uganda International Marathon team in Masaka. Possibly the standout memory so far of my weeks here is the visit to SNE, a local school for deaf children. The abundant joy of the staff and pupils is contagious. The choosing of my ‘sign name’ by which they will know me was an incredible experience: the pupils looking intently at my face and then seeking a feature that they can then assign a unique hand gesture to. Several different gestures are suggested but the class have to reach a consensus. It doesn’t take them long and my sign name will now forever be associated with my rapidly receding hair line. Being welcomed into their world...
