Following their success the past two years, our social training run schedule is back in the lead up to our 2017 event!
Led by Mark (our running expert & certified Athletics Coach), these group runs are for all abilities and designed to be fun and social. They’ve been planned to give you some excellent prep for running in rural Uganda – no matter which event you’re participating in.
We’ll be sure to take into account different pacing as well, as we appreciate everyone runs at different speeds. Whether you’re an experienced runner or Uganda’s your first ever race, we’ll take your needs into consideration.
Afterwards, we’ll reward ourselves by going for coffee/brunch together. This (and the run) are a great way to meet the team and your fellow runners before you travel to Uganda in late May – we can’t recommend them enough if you can make them. In fact, even if you’re resting or recovering and can’t participate in the run itself, you’re still very welcome at the brunch – we’d love to see you there!
A big, big thank you to Mark for putting the programme below together.
Sat 11th February (08:45) – Peckham Rye parkrun – 5K
Our first social training run of the year! A great chance to meet some of the UGM team, past runners and your fellow 2017 runners, whilst stretching your legs around the 5K route. A nice one to kick off your training with, no matter which distance you’re running in Africa. Check out more info on parkrun here, including barcodes.
Sat 4th March (09:30) – Regents Park & Primrose Hill social run – 3.5/7/10 mile options
Take on 1, 2 or 3 laps of Regents Park and the climb up Primrose Hill to get your legs gently used to the idea of the hills of rural Uganda.
Sun 2nd April (09:30) – Wimbledon Common Half Marathon – 21K
A chance to practice your race day kit & nutrition strategy in a real race situation with fellow UGM runners. Afterwards, race drinks at a nearby pub. This one was a real highlight last year! (Sign up for this one in advance as places are limited using this runthrough link.)
Sun 7th May (09:00) – The ‘4 weeks to go’ Thames Path Long Run – 8/16/20 mile options
With literally weeks to go until the main event, this was a really great one for runners to bond on. Following a route down the fantastic Thames Path from Central London to Richmond, this is an excellent one if you want some company on those long runs or want a change of route. Then afterwards, reward yourself with a drink and lunch in a lovely pub garden we know!
Drop us an email at runners@UgandaMarathon.com if you’re planning on attending and we’ll look out for you! Feel free to bring friends too – everyone is welcome. We’d be thrilled if you could join us!
And if you’re not signed up yet (or planning on joining us in 2018 instead), but would like to meet the team and ask some questions in person…that’s great too- we’d love to meet you!
Finally, feel free to get in touch if you’d like to organise some additional runs to add to the training schedule, especially if you’re based outside London. We’ll do our best to help and spread the word. 🙂
