‘it’s not the winning, but the taking part that counts.’

We’ve all heard the cliché.

But with the Uganda Marathon, this expression couldn’t be more true. Right from the moment you step off the plane, throughout the 7-day adventure (and even before), it’s all about a willingness to take part, do your best, and help make a difference.

Here are twelves photos to show you why it’s the participation that counts…

By participating, you’ll be helping a community…

…by doing your best to fundraise…

#2 Here, one of our former runners fundraises over social media. Remember, there’s no pressure with targets – you decide your fundraising aim!

…and giving your time…

…and sharing your skills…

Bring a smile with you…

...and be prepared to have some fun. That in itself will make a massive difference to the local communities.

Then on Race day, don’t worry about your time or position, but just enjoy the breathtaking experience of running through Africa, with the people you’ve met throughout the week…

#7

Soak up the challenge, do your best, but also have some fun…

Choose the distance which feels right for you – a 10K, half-marathon or full. All will be a fantastic challenge for charity.

And if you’re training doesn’t quite go to plan, there’s always the option to switch distances right up until the day…

#10 Ian had a slight knee injury at the time, so waited until the day to make his final decision on which race he would run

Remember, it’s determination and a willingness to take part which is really key…

#11 Ian Watts described himself as a ‘weak runner’ and didn’t manage to complete his training due to injury, but completed the half marathon by determination and nice, steady pacing

Say yes, and you’ll be joining a group who collectively will raise thousands and thousands for charity this summer…leaving a lasting legacy in Uganda.

We’d love to see you there…in a week where it’s truly ‘the taking part that counts’.
