In the area that House of Love and Hope work in, an area which lies on the marathon route, 7 out of 10 women who leave school are semi-literate. These women become housewives and unemployed mothers who are at high risk of domestic violence due to prevailing poverty in their homes.

Without their own income, these women are left vulnerable and fully reliant on their partners who are often Boda-Boda (motorbike taxi) drivers with insufficient money to cater for their basic needs. House of Love and Hope, an organisation that combats a wide variety of issues felt by women and girls, work to empower the women to be independent and earn money that will cater for their own and their family’s basic needs.

This is where you come in…

2019 Goals for House of Love and Hope

  1. Create 25 sustainable events management jobs for vulnerable women in Masaka District
  2. Create a market network that can earn this business $346 a month by June 2020

How you’ll help us achieve the goals

House of Love and Hope, with the support of the 2019 Uganda Marathon runners, will be able to help 25 women at a time by creating a business that can directly employ them. Setting up Saint Bruno Décor and Events will provide flexible employment for the women, allowing them to work around the needs of their children, as well as giving them an outlet to be creative and learn business management skills.

The business is low risk as it will be buying tents, chairs, and decor that can be adapted to keep up with fashion trends, and if stored correctly will last indefinitely. The fundraising from the event will buy all the materials that can start this enterprise that really gives back to the vulnerable women in the community. Especially as only 5% of its profits will go back into the businesses development, with everything else going to the beneficiaries as wages.

And what’s really amazing is that the Uganda Marathon will be their annual customers, as we will be using their services to help organise the incredible Week Long Adventure.

Your Legacy Day During the Uganda Marathon Week

Distance to project: 10 minutes

To start the day, you’ll hear stories from the beneficiaries of House of Love and Hope. You’ll be able to ask questions and hear the types of people the project support. Then, with the help of the project, you’ll pick a logo for the newly launched Saint Bruno events business (from 4 pre-created created logos). Once this has been done, you’ll spend the afternoon painting signs for the business and then, in groups, you’ll help develop a marketing strategy to help Saint Bruno grow.

All the while, hearing the stories from the local youth beneficiaries about their lives, and how your fundraising is going to make a real impact.

Legacy day activities are subject to change at any time, this is not a final plan.
