The Masaka Marathon NGO (The Uganda Marathon Local Team)
Areas of work
This project works to support and empower local leaders, changemakers and people in need across the Masaka Region.
The Masaka Marathon local team
The Uganda Marathon is not just an event that occurs once a year. We are actually a year round organisation that supports and funds projects across Masaka, empowering local leaders and changemakers to make a difference at a grass-roots level. The Masaka Marathon NGO is directly connected with The Uganda Marathon and we host skills exchanges, create connections, do training and help in any way we can to elevate the local community to fix the community issues that confront them.
The Masaka Marathon NGO is locally registered and governed by a board of Trustees made up of local leaders, chosen from the community. The NGO is run by a team of 9+ local staff who all work tirelessly to support the community and ensure that all fundraised money is put to the best uses.
Our focus is on sustainability – we never spend money on sending a child to school for a term, when we can build something that will fund their education for years. We refer to this as “a hand up, not a hand out”. We identify local leaders, projects, and people in need to connect with you so that you can offer them the support they need to create a legacy in Masaka that will be seen for years to come.
As well as this, the team work to navigate all of the challenges that come with working in a developing country. We carry out extensive monitoring, evaluation and learning to make absolutely sure that we are having the biggest impact in the region that we can.
How you’ll help us
Whenever a project is overfunded by the amazing efforts of runners’ fundraising, the surplus is split amongst other projects – including the NGO. We are incredibly proud that every penny, pound and dollar donated and raised by you goes directly to Uganda – to support the people of Uganda, giving them a “hand up – not a hand out”.
You can also choose to fund The Masaka Marathon NGO and your fundraising will go to securing the future of The Uganda Marathon and all the work that we do to support the incredible grass-roots projects in Masaka.
Your Legacy Day During the Uganda Marathon Week
If you choose this project then your legacy day will be spent at one of the other 14 2020 projects. You will get to know one of the many projects that is supported year round by The Uganda Marathon.
Legacy day activities are subject to change at any time, this is not a final plan.
