In a society dominated by men, women in Uganda are sometimes considered property and second class citizens. Ideal Women seeks to transform and empower girls and women, deprived of learning, through skills acquisition, self-discovery, counseling and health education.

Their primary aim is to give vulnerable women control of their lives back. They understand that “a woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman.” So they empower them by providing both skills and connections to enable them to stand on their two feet and become self-reliant. Newly empowered and with an income, the women are in a much stronger position to have a say in the household finances and the support of their offspring.

This is where you come in…

2019 Goals for Ideal Women

  1. Create 45 sustainable tailoring jobs for vulnerable women in Masaka District
  2. Increase Ideal Women’s manufacturing capacity, which will enable them to save monthly costs of 300,000 UGX ($80)

How you’ll help us achieve the goals

Ideal Women has a very impressive sustainability model and with some additional funding from the Uganda Marathon runners, they will have the boost they need to support a target group of:

  1. 15 Teenage mothers
  2. 20 Female youth
  3. 10 Women / Mothers

Ideal Women have already won contracts with schools to make their uniforms, but they currently struggle to meet their demand. Recently they’ve had to let contracts go due to an insufficient production line. With a bit of fundraising, we can make sure this doesn’t happen again by buying tailoring machines and the materials to train new women. This investment will kickstart an ongoing income that will help their beneficiaries over a long period of time.

So by fundraising for Ideal Women, you can help us ensure that 45 girls, women, and mothers are given a voice to boldly speak up and become independent community leaders.

Your Legacy Day During the Uganda Marathon Week

Distance to project: 5 minutes

You’ll be working alongside the women as they teach you how to balance a manual sewing machine and make some basic items. This will be done one on one with a beneficiary of Ideal Women. Then later, you’ll give your input on helping to develop a business plan for the tailoring focusing on marketing and distribution.

All the while, hearing the stories from the women beneficiaries about their lives, and how your fundraising is going to make a real impact.

Legacy day activities are subject to change at any time, this is not a final plan.

In this decade of international women empowerment, why not fundraise to help vulnerable women to stand on their own two feet and become leaders in their community.
